Fedora 20 released at the start of this month, so I thought I’d give it a try via Virtual Box, and I liked it. I’m a fan of Gnome, so the GUI was a pleasure to use, although I now know Xfce can be used, and I’ve warmed to it over the last few months. Issues were Virtual Box related and not Fedora, e.g as always getting a wide-screen view,…

As much as I love the functionality of the xbox 360 kinnect, and there have been some cool games, I don’t use it too often. So I got thinking about what would be an effective use for this sophisticated bit of kit. My first thought was as an alternative cursor controller. And being the 21st century, and having google available at my fingertips, I found that someone had done the…

After reading this post on Reddit about the unboxing of a Steam Machine, I’m very eager to see how well my own Linux machine will handle the Steam OS. All boxes below ticked, except for the NVIDIA graphics card. I’m hoping that the Steam OS will be the catalyst to get AMD drivers sorted for Linux… we can all dream 😉 I wonder how much the controllers will then cost?…

After a week of evenings spending time trying to get my Pirate Box project working, on a TL-MR3020 I’d acquired. I finally got to test it this weekend in public. Following David Darts guide, I couldn’t get Pirate Box to install on the USB. Initially I wasn’t using a 2.0 stick, but even when I switched to one PB wouldn’t install fully. So brave me tried a different approach 😉…

I’ve been enjoying the pirate life via Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag. Although not following the narrative plot, but by capturing bounty from anything else that dare invade my naval region. Sharks bleed out, as I harpoon them through the tropical blue waters, and various sized ships are scuttled for their bounty and crew. The FMV’s after each event are getting repetitive, not sure why this brings back old school memories…

I thought I’d made up my mind to pick up a PS4 first in the new generation, although I’m in no rush as the launch titles don’t seem to be anything special. I love Sony’s product style, and their viral marketing campaigns are targeted well. I find Microsoft make a more rounded seamless product, much like Apple in the mobile hardware space, but I find their games souless… although I…

When I first heard of Minecraft, the tale went that the ultimate goal was to bake a cake. Today while batlling zombie’s in a Skyrim block universe, after working my way through the basic training, I could see it had come a long way since it’s baking origin, and I’m looking forward to finding out more. And to think I only started playing what some claim to be the greatest…

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of Tolkien’s Middle Earth, although I don’t think The Hobbit should have been stetched out to 3 epic length films, but nevertheless I’m a long time Tolkien fan boy, and this Google web project, A journey through Middle Earth, excites me more than anything I’ve come across online in nearly 20 years. Click on this link: http://middle-earth.thehobbit.com/ (I could only open it…

I’ve been on a quest to find a decent note taking app for my Android phone for some time. I’ve tried several, but for the past few months Google Keep (get it here on Play) as shone through. Feature I like about Google Keep … although not necesarily unique to the app ease it just works, although I’m not a fan of the widget, but then again Power Control is…

I’ve bee so impressed with Android Kit-Kat on the Nexus 4 today that I’ve decided to upgrade my Nexus 7 to Android 4.4 before the OTA udgrade is available. Here’s a link to all of the factory images for Nexus devices… this is one of the selling points of having a Nexus:) This time I fooowed the below guide, gracious to Talk Android Power off your nakasi Nexus 7, and…

http://youtu.be/idVKIcNX688 Sony always have the coolest viral marketing campaigns 🙂 Thanks to Joystiq for this breakdown I can only guess that it’s related to the new Ultra Street Fighter IV incarnation due in the new year? Viral ‘Hadouken Cabs’ video splices Street Fighter with PlayStation 4 A viral video for something called Hadouken Cabs, a fictional taxi service we totally wish was a real thing, has made its way onto…

I didn’t enjoy the last Battlefield incarnation (it’s on my trilogies to finish list), and this one hasn’t got off to a great start. Playing on the XBOX, I’m not put off by the 2 Gig HD install. Think it’s great really, as it will mean faster data retrieval and more detailed texture mapping. And the game isn’t poor, far from it. What I don’t like is EA’s marketing and…

By installing Gnome on 13.10 Saucy Salamander I lost my mouse cursor when opening Unity Now I’ve never beent he biggest fan of Unity; but through asking advice on the irc freenode #ubuntu channel I was introduced to xubuntu. 🙂 I find it hard to believe that over the many years, installations, and virtual boxes that I’ve never tried xubuntu before! I’ve fallen for its simplicity and ease, what drew…

After a session playing Skyrim yesterday (I accidently killed the Ebony Knight, I may go back to an earlier save), I was inspired to load up for the first time Bethesda‘s Rage, and I’ve been pleasently surprised. It feels like a glossy verison of Borderlands, set in a near identical World Interplay’s signature post- apocalypse Fallout, although with a feel of Mad Max. Finding it easy to engage with; usual…

After my AMD graphic card driver update my Kerbals are now back in space! And this time in 1080p 🙂 I think this weekend may entail a mission to the Mun!

Bataman; Arkham Origins (Metacritic 74%, 8.0)on the 360 is staggeringly beautiful, (I’m going to have to go back and play the last title to see how it looks in 1080p) the textures are detailed, and the character movements slick. The flow style battle is back, just as brutal, and fun. Gadgets are equipped from the offset, with the ‘level-up’s’ earned It all sounds good eh? But my one problem with…
