State of Decay

State of Decay
I don’t know why, but I’ve had this State of Decay downloaded from xbox arcade for quite a while, but I’ve been reluctant to play.

Think it may be the fear of making the wrong choices, and getting too attached to characters that die off… have I mentioned before that I may take games a little too seriously 🙂

Anyway, today my journey into the zombie bush began, and except for the odd bit of melee damage, it has not been too traumatic.

I’ve yet to use a gun… for a couple of reasons.

First I believe ammo will be scarce, and second I’ve a hunch that gun shots will attract all the undead in the surrounding area.

I know I’m early in, but I’m protective of my characters. I don’t imagine I will lead them all to salvation, but I’ll be pissed if ones get killed off not due to my poor decisions.

I’m not sure of how far I’ll progress through it… maybe for as long as it takes The Wolf Among US to download 🙂

So back to the undead filled wilderness… I like the open word aspect, and how the graphics are not overcharged.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind eye candy, but game play for me is always the first priority.

I’ve now played a couple of hours and I am having fun.

There isn’t much diversity, but it’s the survival aspect; not using equipment and weapons until needed, that keeps me on my toes.

The equipment / weapons seem varied, and I’m enjoying how the characters level up.

I’m not sure how long it will keep my attention, although if this was the only game in my ‘to play’ pile I think I could be more involved.

For an arcade game I am very impressed, especially with the multiple character open world aspect.

The physics engine isn’t perfect, noticeable after playing GTA V, but as said it’s an arcade title, and in no way does it reduce the impression of the game, those that criticise it for this are just picking at straws… or dead zombie tendons 🙂

[Rating: 3] State of Decay is as good as arcade games get
