PSP new battery new games library
07/02/2025
I’ve picked up a new battery for my PSP this week, and taking this opportunity to update the installed games
I’m looking for ones that are quick for pickup and play. I do have a fondness for beat ’em ups, [Street Fighter & Tekken], and shoot ’em ups [not so much bullet hell, more cute ’em up style]
So what gets a place on my SD card?
Fighting Games
- Street Fighter Alpha 3
- no brainer, classic, although not keen on the d-pad controls, but I can get over it
- Tekken 6
- I haven’t played much Tekken since Tag on the PS2, so this will be fun
Arcade Style
- Jetpack Joyride
- I’m a fan of the OG, and xbox 360 version, of Jetpack, and this is just a quick fun incarnation
- Patapon 3
- I remember spending a fortnight at Koh Samui Thailand, sat in the shade, playing the original Patapon, this version is meant to be an improvement, so looking forward to hitting the drums
- Pac-Man Championship Edition
- It’s Pac-Man, always wanted to master the movement of the ghosts, this is my opportunity, and it’s a teeny ROM
- Sid Meier’s Pirates!
- Best sailing sim, great time dump, and who doesn’t like capturing Spanish galleons, arggh!
- Parappa the Rapper
- No secret that I’m a huge Parappa fan boy, this has to be installed
- Gitaroo Man Lives
- No Um Lammy Jammer, but this guitar rhythm game is on par
- OutRun 2006 – Coast 2 Coast
- Fun, easy pickup and play, with the classic Capcom tunes
- Wipeout Pure
- As above, with star studded techno soundtrack
- Mega Man – Powered Up
- Until the Game Boy I never had a Nintendo machine, so I have little experience of this title, or series. Know it’s highly regarded, so let’s give it a go
- Grand Theft Auto – Chinatown Wars
- I’ve played through Liberty City, and Vice City Stories, and enjoyed the isometric view on the early ones. Let’s see how this works scaled to the small screen
Shoot ’em ups
- R-Type Command
- OG favourite, love the boss battles, and level aesthetics
- Gravity Crash Portable
- Is this a shooter, not sure, but I spend hours playing it! I spent lunch times as a child playing Thrust II on school BBC Micros, this is in my blood
- Detana!! TwinBee, aka Bells & Whistles
- Cute ’em up action, this is what I play when I don’t have Super Fantasy Zone available
- Name translates as It’s Here!! TwinBee
- Gradius Collection
- Can’t play shoot ’em ups on a Sony console and leave out Gradius!
- Mini Squadron
- So much fun, great pick up an play
- Neo Geo Heroes Ultimate Shooting
- Picking this up from a recommendation
Other
- Blood Bowl
- I really don’t mind this version, except I usually don’t have time to finish a match in a single sitting
- Half Minute Hero
- Compelling, with a novel concept, great way to re-imagine RPG’s
- Manhunter 2
- Never had opportunity to play this before, and I’ve never played a Rockstar game I didn’t enjoy
Should be enough to get me started, off to convert a few ISO’s to CSO’s, and then the real challenge of what to play first 🙂
