Price of consoles on release allowing for inflation

Here’s an interesting article at Joystiq, comparing the prices of past consoles at release, with today’s prices, allowing for inflation.

Surprising? Not really, given we know that hardware retail prices are subsidised, and the dollars are made from software sales. Thus why the manufacturers want to control the retail market electronically, and not leave chain stores to shifting hard copy discs, plus kill off the second hand game market.

After reading this I’m more thankful to my folks for buying me the Master System for Xmas, together with 3D glasses… I am not thankful for them flogging it at a car boot sale while I was away at uni 😉
