Academy of Code

13/07/2013

I’ve been working through GitHub for useful code, found some interesting material, but it’s time to step up my learning. After reading through this Reddit/Python thread: How did you learn Python I’ve chosen Codecademy. I’ve only recently begun, but I like the uncluttered text and being able to enter script on the site. Let’s see how long I can commit to before I become distracted with something else 😉

Wet forecast, fancy a change from games? Here’s what I’ve chosen to occupy my time over the next two days: V for Vendetta Comic Book Apparently heaps better than the film, which I thought was quite poor and sanctimonious. I’m only picking up the comic due to good recommendations. Quite looking forward to it, as I gre up in the Thatcher years, and haven’t read a full comic series in…

I accidentally came across ThunderClap today, as it was linked from my home page on Firefox. I thought the link was to take me to an info page on the soon to be released Firefox OS. This sounds like a very valuable tool, in the social media World. I am keen to keep an eye on it, and I am sure that my participation will be shown in the Twitter…

A fish: The most highbrow jokes in the world A few of the jokes really made me lol, my favourites: Q How many programmers does it take to change a light bulb? A None, it’s a hardware problem. Bit late to the party, but this has to be a wind up… right? Christopher Poole or “Moot” as he is known on 4chan.org, another type of image sharing website, says he’s disappointed at Reddit’s behavior. “It really disgusts me what Reddit is doing to 9Gag. They just need to stop this already. The internet is supposed to be a fun place where everyone is accepted. It’s not funny what…

MEGA python

I’m investigating the uses for MEGA, as an Android app became recently available. Considering using it for secure communication; as all data is encrypted, therefore if multiple people had a log in to the same account they could share files that could be messages. Another option is to upload the message as a file, and share a link to the file in an encrypted format, then delete the file after…

Gnome loving

After finally getting my AMD graphics driver sorted in Ubuntu, I’ve made a move to Gnome 3 from Unity. I’ve been using Linux for quite a few years, and haven’t felt comfortable with Unity from release… in saying this I’m still not a fully converted fan of Gnome 3, let’s see how it goes. I’ve been playing with Mint via VirtualBox, but I’m not quite ready to make it my…

Here’s a thread I’ve been working through to set up gpg keys on my system:Ubuntu Forums –I’ll keep this thread current as my personal reference of what I’m playing with I’ve had some success, I just need to convince the people I communicate with that they need to encrypt their emails now 🙂

Through the cpanel of this site I’ve just made the site Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure 🙂 I’ve been using HTTPS-everywhere in Chrome and Firefox for quite a while, and I imagined it would be more of a challenge, and costly to set up, so I’ve never got around to looking into it before. 5 mins after logging into the cpanel, the site is ‘secure’! The certificate however isn’t registered, so…

I’ve finally sorted out my ATI graphics card driver in Ubuntu. KSP is nearly as fluid as in Win7, but it’s in Linux so more fun 🙂 Helpful Pages BinaryDriverHowto/AMD RadeonDriver What is the correct way to install proprietary ATI Catalyst Video Drivers (fglrx) directly from AMD?
